Aetiology
Cerebral palsy is caused by a lesion that is permanent and non-progressive.
Possible causes of cerebral palsy include:
- cerebral malformation. Up to 60% of cerebral palsy is due to early prenatal abnormality.
- trauma - birth, postnatal
- hypoxia
- kernicterus
- hypoglycaemia
- infection
- cerebrovascular accident
- poisoning
- toxins
- HIV infection
