Upper neurone signs in the arms suggest that a compressive cord lesion is above C5.

C5-6 lesions show:

  • lower motor neurone signs in rhomboids, deltoids, biceps, brachioradialis
  • upper motor neurone signs in the the rest of the upper limbs and in all of the lower limbs
  • loss of biceps and supinator reflexes

C8-T1 lesion show:

  • lower motor neurone signs in the intrinsic muscles of the hands
  • upper motor neurone signs in the lower limbs
  • occasionally, a Horner's syndrome
