Management
The aim of treatment is to improve the disability that results from parkinsonian tremor. Patients may need support and reassurance as they may be distressed by the tremor.
Management includes:
- altering / eliminating causes of tremor such as drugs
- advise to carry a newspaper or handbag under the arm - this can reduce the tremor
- anticholinergic drugs are more successful than L dopa when tremor is the main problem
- dopaminergic drugs such as levodopa - when the patient also has rigidity dopaminergic drugs would normally be considered before the anticholinergics
