Peripheral neuropathy (with autonomic dysfunction)
Neuropathies that may produce severe involvement of autonomic function include:
- diabetes mellitus: may present with impotence, postural hypotension, diarrhoea and sphincter disturbances. Cardiac denervation may also occur.
- Guillain-Barre syndrome: may present with autonomic involvement such as cardiac dysrhythmias and labile hypertension.
- amyloidosis: neuropathy of primary amyloidosis may cause distal pain and temperature loss in the limbs, and trophic ulceration and autonomic symptoms.
- porphyria
- renal failure
- vincristine
