The aim of investigations in Creutzfeldt Jakob disease are to exclude treatable conditions:

  • MRI of the brain:
    • high signal in the posterior thalamus may be seen in new variant CJD
  • lumbar puncture with immunoassay for 14-3-3 protein
  • EEG
  • prion protein gene analysis
