Complications
The complications of tonic-clonic status epilepticus may be divided into:
- cerebral
- cardiovascular
- respiratory
- autonomic
- metabolic
- miscellaneous
In new-onset status epilepticus, unprovoked seizures and a diagnosis of epilepsy will follow in about 30%, with increased risk in those with more refractory SE (1)
Prolonged super-refractory status epilepticus may lead to more permanent cognitive or behavioural disturbances. (2)
