Bleeding peptic ulcer (endoscopic sclerotherapy)
Although very much a recent development, endoscopic injection of peptic ulcer sites which demonstrate acute or recurrent haemorrhage is believed to be very effective.
Much the same technique as for variceal bleeding is used except injection of vasoconstrictor with or without sclerosant is made around the lesion. Further injection may be made underneath the site.
Uncommon complications include infarction of the stomach and duodenum.
