The side effects of intralesional steroids are infrequent to rare, but can include:

  • early:
    • bleeding
    • sepsis
    • blindness - several case reports secondary to the injection of lesions around the nose; presumed intravascular injection
  • late:
    • temporary or permanent skin atrophy:
      • epidermal
      • subcutaneous
      • perilymphatic
    • depigmentation
    • telangiectasia
    • superficial ulceration
