Miscellaneous maternal indications
In cases of respiratory or cardiac insufficiency in the mother it is usually preferable to perform an assisted vaginal delivery rather than a caesarian section.
Specific indications for a caesarian section include:
Severe pregnancy-induced hypertension
- a speedy, induced labour may be attempted; however induction in a primigravida before the 34th week is unreliable
- if progress is poor then a section should be considered
Hypotension or renal disease
- section is performed in the interests of the foetus
