Major APH
The management of major antepartum haemorrhage includes:
- admit through flying squad
- check haemoglobin, clotting
- continuous CTG monitoring
- cross-match blood
- establish IV access
- monitor fluid balance
- CVP line, urinary catheter
- urgent ultrasound scan (possible only if clinical situation allows)
- do not perform vaginal examination - in case of placenta praevia
- transfuse if necessary
- sedate if necessary
- if fetus is alive perform an emergency caesarian section
