Pathology
Epidermal cysts are characterized by:
- stratified squamous epithelial lining
- keratin contents:
- laminated distribution
- often birefringent
- may be associated with melanin and calcification
- occasional cholesterol clefts
- foreign body reaction around cyst:
- multinucleate giant cells
- believed to be due to spillage of cyst contents
