A swollen lacrimal gland will protrude above the outer angle of the eyelids
A swollen lacrimal sac will protrude medially to the inner angle of the eyelids.
Swollen lacrimal glands and lacrimal sacs are often the result of infection.
Mumps may cause a dacryo-adenitis and therefore induce swelling of the lacrimal gland.
