Pyrazinamide
This is the only bactericidal drug which is active against the intracellular forms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is particularly useful in the treatment of tuberculous meningitis because of its good penetration of the blood- brain barrier.

- tuberculosis
Cautions:
- gout
- diabetes
- beware interactions
- impaired renal function
Contra-indications:
- liver damage
- porphyria
Side-effects:
- nausea and vomiting
- arthralgia
- hepatomegaly
- jaundice
- hepatotoxicity including fever and anorexia
- liver failure
- sideroblastic anaemia
- urticaria
Routes of administration:
- oral
