Complications
The potential complications of epidermoid cyst include:
- inflammation; a surrounding foreign body reaction to discharge of the cyst's contents
- infection:
- particularly the face and neck in association with acne vulgaris
- both aerobic and anaerobic organisms are commonly isolated
- calcification
- very rarely, malignant change in a long-standing cyst
