Risedronate
Risedronate is a pyridinyl bisphosphonate. It is licensed for prevention and treatment of both postmenopausal and corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis.
Typical dosage regimens include: (1)
Paget's disease of bone: 30 mg orally daily for 2 months. The course may be repeated if necessary after at least 2 months.
Treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis to reduce risk of vertebral or hip fractures: (female) 5 mg orally daily, alternatively 35 mg once weekly.
Prevention of osteoporosis (including corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis) in postmenopausal women: (female) 5 mg orally daily.
Treatment of osteoporosis in men at high risk of fractures: 35 mg orally once weekly.
Risedronate can also be given at a dose of 150mg once a month
