Talipes equinovarus is the most common form of club foot:

  • the incidence is 1.2 per 1000 live births, but the incidence varies worldwide, e.g. 0.57/1,000 in Orientals to 6.81/1,000 in Polynesians
  • the risk of club foot is increased 20-fold if there is an affected first degree relative; inheritance is either polygenic or autosomal dominant with incomplete penetrance
  • the incidence is higher in males than females - 3:1
  • one third of cases are bilateral
