Effects peculiar to children
The fact that there may be therapeutic and toxic drug effects peculiar to children is amply demonstrated by:
- corticosteroids and growth - IV steroids producing cushingoid dwarves. Inhaled steroids were a breakthrough in combating this.
- amphetamine in the treatment of hyperkinetic children. Amphetamine focuses attention on the task in hand in children, whereas in adults it would probably reduce attention.
- aspirin in children may predispose to Reye's syndrome
