  • the normal full term baby lies on his back with elbows flexed, knees and hips partly flexed
  • when pulled to sitting, the child shows considerable head lag but shows some ability to raise the head particularly at the half way stage, ie at 45 degrees
  • when prone, the pelvis is fairly low on the couch and the hips partly and intermittently extended
  • the child is able to raise his chin off the couch momentarily
  • when suspendend in the prone position, the child can hold the head in line with the rest of the body
