The palpebral part of orbicularis oculi is less broad than the encircling orbital part.
It arises from the medial palpebral ligament and the bone of the frontal process of the maxilla both superiorly and inferiorly. It passes concentrically and superficial to the tarsi within the eyelids to insert into the lateral palpebral raphe. It surrounds the lacrimal part of the muscle.
Its blood supply is derived from the ophthalmic, zygomatico-orbital and angular arteries. It is innervated by the zygomatic and occasionally, frontal, branches of the facial nerve (VII).
