Post neonatal mortality rate

Authoring team

The post neonatal rate is the number of deaths occurring after 28 days of age and before one year, i.e. after the neonatal period, given as a rate per thousand live births per year.

It can be given by the infant mortality rate minus the neonatal mortality rate.

The post-neonatal mortality rate in the UK is approximately 1.1 per 1,000 live births for England (2021-23). This rate, which covers deaths between 28 days and one year of age, has remained stable since 2014-2016.
