Sugars
Sugars are carbohydrate molecules which are:
- sweet to taste
- crystalline
- dissolvable in water
They include monosaccharides and disaccharides. Refined sugars are less desirable than complex carbohydrates as a source of energy in a balanced diet.
'Sugar' is commonly taken to mean refined sucrose (table sugar).
