Vitamin D dependent rickets type II

Vitamin D dependent rickets type II is caused by target organ resistance to 1,25(OH)2D3 associated with an abnormality of tissue receptors. This results in inadequate intestinal absorption of calcium, possibly accompanied by deranged vitamin D action in other organs such as bone.

Treatment is unsatisfactory, but it may respond to massive doses of active vitamin D metabolites
