Psychogenic convulsions

These differ from organic convulsions in three ways:

  • The patient remains conscious
  • Movement is not regular and stereotyped as expected
  • There is no incontinence, tongue biting or injury

If there is difficulty excluding temporal lobe, complex partial seizures then continuous EEG monitoring may be diagnostic.
