Aetiology
The exact cause of Tourette's syndrome is unknown. Several theories have been proposed:
- dysfunction of the dopaminergic pathway
- genetic predisposition
- TS is a genetically heterogeneous disorder
- environmental factors e.g. - infection, autoimmune dysfunction, prenatal and perinatal problems
- autoimmune dysfunction
