Authoring team

The probability of a diagnosis depends initially on the overall prevalence of a disease in the community. The purpose of taking a history is to produce possible diagnoses and obtain information for ranking them in the order appropriate for that individual patient. The age and sex of the patient, the duration of symptoms and their association with other symptoms are particularly important.
