Primary paranoid states

Authoring team

These refer to a group of patients who have isolated "paranoid" delusions but who have no other features either of schizophrenia an affective disorder or an organic state.

The diagnosis made in this group of patients is of "paranoid state" or paranoia. The relationship between this diagnosis and both schizophrenia and affective disorder is uncertain, as is the question of the relationship between the different paranoid states.

This is a "rag-bag" category of syndromes and cases in light of further observation may be diagnosed as other conditions i.e. schizophrenia.
