Psychiatric treatments
This section covers some of the treatment measures used in psychiatric illness. Treatments used in psychiatry are aimed at:
- influencing the patient's mental state
- assisting in the patient's rehabilitation and return to the community
Treatment measures that are available can be classified in three groups:
- psychological e.g. psychotherapy, behaviour therapy
- physical e.g. sedatives, tranquillisers
- occupational e.g. occupational therapy, industrial therapy
