Emotional & somatic consequences of stressful events
Fear and anxiety are the predominant emotions when a stressor is threatening or dangerous. Consequent autonomic arousal results in tachycardia, dry mouth and sweating.
Depression predominates after a loss or separation. The somatic reactions are characterised by decreased activity and tiredness.
