When to refer to secondary psychiatric services
The GP should consider referral to a psychogeriatric team in the following circumstances:
- when the assessment and management of the patient exceeds the experience and knowledge of the GP
- when there is clear evidence of suicidal intent
- when there is suspicion of suicidal intent
- when there is a poor response to treatment of mental disease
