The dominant feature is deficiency of serum immunoglobulin:

  • IgG - less than 200 mg / dl
  • IgA and IgM - both less than 1% of normal

Other features include:

  • reduced or absent isohaemagglutins
  • positive Schick test
  • failure to produce antibodies to DTP vaccine
  • normal peripheral lymphocyte count
  • normal delayed hypersensitivity skin tests
