Renal manifestations of PAN
The kidneys are involved in PAN in 65-80% of cases:
- renal biopsy reveals arteritis
- arteriography often reveals microaneurysms
The arteritis results in:
- renal ischaemia and infarction
- systemic hypertension
- renal failure
Renal involvement is an indicator of poor prognosis.
