Differential diagnosis
The differential includes:
- septicaemia with associated disseminated intravascular coagulation, for example caused by gram-negative bacilli, staphylococcus aureus, pneumococcus, meningococcus, mycoplasma, psittacosis (1)
In addition:
- malaria
- leptospirosis
- snake bite
- dengue haemorrhagic fever
- Hantaan virus
