Radionuclide studies in renal medicine
Radionuclide studies provide information that is unavailable from other radiological techniques. Compounds labelled with a radioactive marker are administered intravenously and their distribution in the body mapped using an externally placed scintillation counter such as a gamma camera. In renal medicine, radioisotopes are used to assess:
- renal function
- presence of bony metastases
