Aetiology
Causes include:
- any cause of hypoaldosteronism
- any cause of hyporeninaemia, including chronic renal disease, for example in diabetes mellitus
- renal resistance to aldosterone
- drugs e.g. ACE-inhibitors, beta-blockers, NSAIDs, potassium sparing diuretics, cyclosporin
