  • cardiovascular causes:
    • atrial myxoma

  • respiratory causes:
    • tuberculosis - typically within 6 weeks of onset
    • pleural mesothelioma

  • gastrointestinal causes:
    • liver cirrhosis
    • ulcerative colitis
    • Crohn's disease
    • coeliac disease

  • endocrinological:
    • thyroid acropachy in thyrotoxicosis
