Acute type 2 respiratory failure
Possible causes include:
- severe acute asthma - as the patient becomes exhausted type 2 respiratory failure occurs
- acute epiglottitis
- respiratory muscle paralysis; a number of aetiologies including Guillain-Barre syndrome
