Causes of moderate haemoptysis
The causes of moderately severe haemoptysis include:
- chronic bronchitis
- acute-on-chronic bronchitis
- pneumonia (especially pneumococcal)
- pulmonary oedema
- mitral stenosis
- acute left ventricular failure
- pulmonary embolism
- rupture of a mucosal vessel e.g. coughing
