Bronchial gland carcinoma
These arise from bronchial submucosal glands. Two types are described:
- mucoepidermoid carcinoma:
- nests and cords of malignant squamous cells with areas of mucopolysaccharides
- low- and high-grade forms exist
- adenoid cystic carcinoma:
- resembles the adenoid cystic carcinoma found within the salivary glands
- growth is initially slow, but eventually, it metastasises to regional lymph nodes
- there is a propensity for perineural involvement
