CAPD is administered as follows:

  • instill two litres of dialysate through the dialysis catheter over 10 minutes
  • clamp catheter and leave dialysate to equilibrate over 6-10 hours
  • drain and discard
  • repeat for a total of 3-4 exchanges per day, 7 days per week
