The complication rates in day surgery, resulting in unexpected readmissions are equally divided between problems with the surgery and anaesthesia:

  • haemorrhage, pain in 50%
  • nausea and vomiting, dizziness in 50%

Rates of hospital admission directly from the day surgery care unit postoperatively range from 0.7% to 6%. Readmission rates after discharge home vary from 0.07% to 2%.
