Factors associated with increased risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) despite adequate anticoagulation
reasons for recurrent VTE despite anticoagulation
The following conditions are associated with an increased risk for recurrent thromboembolism despite anticoagulation:
- anatomic compression (i.e. May-Thurner syndrome, Thoracic Outlet syndrome, etc.)
- antiphospholipid syndrome
- cancer
- dysfibrinogenemia
- heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
- myeloproliferative Neoplasm-uncontrolled (e.g. Polycythemia Vera, Essential Thrombocythemia)
- paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria
- subtherapeutic anticoagulation (1)
