Left ventricular enlargement
Features include:
- elongation of the left ventricular contour
- cardiac apex is displaced downwards
- on the lateral view the infero-posterior aspect of the heart becomes lower and more posterior
- if there is left ventricular hypertrophy then the left ventricle is not commonly enlarged. Instead, there may be a more rounded left ventricle border seen on a PA film
