Westermark's triad
Westermark's triad of radiological signs is classically present in cases of pulmonary embolism.
The appearances are often very subtle, but in the presence of an abnormal perfusion scan Westermark's triad confirms the diagnosis of pulmonary embolus.
The triad comprises:
- vessel cut-off
- oligaemic areas of lung field
- shunting of blood
