Possible clinical features include; (1)

  • joint instability, deformity and swelling
  • absence of warmth or tenderness
  • joint mobility is increased

The joint may look significantly deformed but usually, is quite painless. This paradox between the appearance of the affected joint and the patient's perception of pain is diagnostic of this condition.
