Crus (right)
The right crus is characterised by:
- origin on anterior surface of upper three lumbar vertebral bodies and their interposed intervertebral discs
- tendon fibres pass superiorly and to the left to form a sling around the oesophagus at its aperture through the diaphragm
- muscle fibres merge beyond the oesophagus, pass superoanteriorly and insert into the central tendon of diaphragm
- wider and longer than left crus
