Internal and interior are synonymous adjectives used to describe an object that is nearer to the centre of a specified organ, cavity or viscus. For example, absorptive villi are on the interior of the small intestine.
Alternatively, interior is used to indicate objects which pass from the anterior to the posterior surface of the body, and internal is used to describe objects which pass into the skull.
