Lobar bronchus (right superior lobe)

The right superior lobar bronchus is a branch of the right principal bronchus before the hilum of the right lung. Just proximal from the divergence of main stem bronchi at the carina, it passes laterally and slightly superiorly within the right lung root to form three segmental bronchi within the parenchyma of the right superior lobe:

• apical segmental bronchus; supplies apical bronchopulmonary segment
• anterior segmental bronchus; supplies anterior bronchopulmonary segment
• posterior segmental bronchus; supplies posterior bronchopulmonary segment

The right superior bronchus is the most superior of any lobar bronchus within the thorax. It is even superior to the pulmonary artery; for this reason, it is also termed the eparterial bronchus.
