  • more than one person living in house affected;
  • symptomatic improvement when away from house e.g. whilst on holiday.
  • symptoms worse in winter when heating in use;
  • symptoms worse when cooker being used;

Signs that may be present include:

  • black sooty marks on wall around fires, boilers, stoves;
  • black sooty marks on gas fire radiants;
  • gas appliances burning with yellow flames rather than blue;
  • accumulatioon of smoke in rooms due to faulty flues; it is not possible to smell carbon monoxide but you can smell other combustion products.
