Circumferential burn

  • is present when the entire circumference of a limb (or the trunk, neck, or digits) is burned
  • inelastic burned skin has potential to constrict the underlying tissues
    • especially if tissue oedema progresses, leading to tissue necrosis
  • all circumferential burns should be discussed with a burns service urgently (1)
