Low voltage electrical injury tends to produce local tissue necrosis. Usually, this manifests as contact surface burns. However, alternating current may cause spasm and tetany of muscles; if a source of electricity is gripped by hand, this can prevent release and so worsens injury.
Low voltage electrical injury can cause cardiac arrest.
